Madame Peaches tells us all about how she helps brides-to-be have the most fun on their hen party. Whether you’re a slow mover, dancing diva or a Michelangelo in the making there’s fun for everyone. You don’t even have to be a bride-to-be – all parties are welcome. She also gives us the lowdown on her favourite Edinburgh hot-spots too.
Madame Peaches began in Edinburgh in 2008. We offer Dance Classes and Life Drawing Classes for hen parties and birthday parties and any other excuse for a fabulous get together! We are making our way across the UK and world domination is scheduled soon.
Madame Peaches was born because I really felt there was a need for a more personal service for hen parties. One size doesn’t fit all. I’d seen too many times companies trying to bend the needs of the customer to suit what they were offering. We of course have a standard service (everybody needs a starting point!) but the important thing is it’s just that – a starting point. It’s the flexibility to adapt to fit the customer that’s crucial. The first thing is that we offer bespoke party theme creation. The bride to be wants Rod Stewart, Phil Collins, Buffy, Carmen Miranda, Surfing? (actual examples) no problem! Our teachers love the crazy challenges I present them with and we’re never had something we couldn’t tackle yet! Once the theme is set, it’s all the little things that make a real difference to your day – needing your venue at a certain end of town, concerned that the Burlesque isn’t too saucy for the shyer members of the group, needing us to help you smuggle in the hens secret Dolly Parton costume, recommend somewhere for dinner – all of this is par for the course (of course!) and if we can help, we will.
We offer 28 party themes and we’re always happy to give you advice to help you decide which will be best for your group. No matter what you choose, the teachers job is adapt the class to fit you. You’re all phenomenal dancers? We’ll speed things up and throw in a couple of extra moves to keep you busy. Some groups need a bit more time to master their moves – no problem. At the drop of a (sparkly Chicago) hat, we can slow down and simplify!
As well as our Dance Classes, over the last year we have seen the demand for Life Drawing Classes just rocket! My theory is that it’s a little bit naughty – but not too naughty. You are far less likely to mortally embarrass the hen with a naked man at an art class than with an orange, oily stripper bouncing around his bits at her! With these classes, it really doesn’t matter if you can’t draw or haven’t even tried since you were 11 – it absolutely is the taking part that counts and some of our funniest parties that have honestly been a real hoot have in no way been packed with potential Picasso’s! A lot of groups choose to combine these two activities which can be a great way to cater to all guests.
We want to make everything that we do accessible to as many people as possible and this means that on occasion we have had boys bookings dance classes with us, we’ve had grannies taking a spin in a pole dancing class, parties adapted to be suitable for children who didn’t want to be left out of the celebrations, a bride to be on crutches and countless other customers all with their unique requirements. This is a philosophy that we also apply to our weekly pole classes in Edinburgh. We provide a warm and nurturing environment where students make friends and support each other to achieve things they literally never thought they could. Everybody is welcomed, encouraged and valued. (If your stay in Edinburgh is over a Monday or a Thursday – drop us a line to book in for a class!)
I don’t tend to get to teach much now as I’m often on call on Saturdays, but on the occasions that I do – nothing could make me happier than the drama and cheese of a ‘Back to the 80’s’ party. I love the music and the excuse to go completely OTT with all the moves (that will be the actor in me – I went to drama school in Edinburgh graduating in 2005) It’s hugely satisfying to see the girls letting go of any inhibitions and really living in the moment.
Edinburgh is simple stunning with an abundance of things to see and do. Electric Circus on Market Street is a really cool venue with amazing cocktails, live bands and karaoke, a wander around the Grassmarket is a must – really quirky with lovely little individual shops (work to the wise – lots of steps uphill are probable!) There is something for everyone and you’d be hard pressed to visit somewhere more beautiful for your hen party!
